Dear Friend,

Is your brand identity more than just a logo? It should be. While a logo is a good place to start, you should consider building your "visual position" to be something larger. It should incorporate a color palette, a graphic style, typefaces and images.

Building a system for your brand allows you to meet the demands of different media, while still presenting a cohesive identity.

For example, web site design only allows a limited number of font choices, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a corporate typeface for printed marketing materials. In fact, the more elements you can establish as your basic look and feel will mean that variations from that scheme won't cause your brand identity to disentegrate.

To see an example, take a look at the branding system we designed for Global Citizenship Experience, below.

All the best,
Emily Brackett

In this issue:

Branding System: Global Citizenship Experience

We've been working with a new educational group, Global Citizenship Experience, to help them launch their new school. Over the course of the past year we've built a complete branding system for GCE. Initially, we designed a logo, some preliminary announcements and a small scale web site. As their business plans finalized, we designed their enrollment and application materials, additional marketing pieces and expanded their web site.

The color cheme started with the earthy-brown and blue colors of the logo. We grew that palette by adding orange, green and aqua, and added an ivory-colored fabric texture to show how interwoven their educational components were. The overall look is warm and textural. The new web site is built in Wordpress, allowing GCE to update content themselves and add a blog when they are ready.

Client Testimonial: New Leaf Project Management

"Emily has been our 'go to' person for graphic design through several different business entities. She always manages to create a "look" for us that is flexible (able to function across multiple platforms), professional, fresh, and fun. In addition, her work is always on time, her knowledge is extensive, and her ethics and standards are of the highest order. In short, you cannot find a better graphic arts partner than Emily Brackett and Visible Logic!" —Nancy McJennett

We're very happy to be working again with Nancy McJennett and Jack Nevison. I think they are my oldest clients (no they're not 100 years old, we've just been working together for nearly 13 years). I first worked with them in at Duncan/Nevison, and then Oak Associates. Now I'm helping them launch their most recent business: New Leaf Project Management. The web site is underway and I promise pictures in an upcoming newsletter.

Polyphony HS Web Site Upgrade

Polyphony HS is similar to many of our small business or non-profit clients: They started small and then just kept building. We initially launched a brochure-style web site for PHS in fall 2008. Just recently, we've helped them expand their content, add a content management system and make some tweaks to the design. We built the site using Joomla with a WordPress blog. Now they'll be able to update their own content, sell their printed magazines and publish their quarterly 'zine. Take a look a the live site: www.polyphonyhs.com
